STARS “OFF” ICE?
Stars on Ice is an incredible visual feast combining athleticism and artistry, and fantastic showmanship! Kids Up Front was pleased to host some “Stars Off Ice” at the Stars On Ice performance on Sunday May 17, 2015 at the Scotiabank Saddledome! A huge thanks to Cenovus for supporting the Pay It Forward Project.
Twenty deserving mothers and daughters enjoyed an afternoon complete with tea and dessert at the Yellow Door Bistro in the Hotel Arts, “Suite” treatment at the show thanks to Calbridge Homes and the Calgary Herald, and wonderful gift bags for each guest courtesy of the Calgary CO-OP Foundation! Twenty additional guests were able to enjoy the show courtesy of IMG and Bruce Allen! What an incredible day!
When Kids Up Front approached our partner agencies to solicit nominations for this special event, we were impressed by the many stories of strong, dedicated, hardworking and deserving moms out there! There are too many to mention! Thank you to all who took the time to honor and recognize the families that you serve! The mother/daughter afternoon was meant to recognize those that had made significant achievements or progress with respect to their goals, those that had made invaluable contributions to their communities and families, and those that were hardworking, dedicated and committed role models to their daughters!
With a noteworthy guest list, the Kids Up Front afternoon began with an absolutely incredible and impressive dark chocolate Bavarois, with fruit compote, whipped cream, and “chocolate triangles”, as the girls called them! Thank you to Sebastian, Natasha, William, Chef Quinn, and Fraser Abbott at the Yellow Door; hosts with the “mosts”!
We then traveled to the Saddledome for Stars on Ice where our families were treated to VIP seating in the Calbridge Homes and Calgary Herald Suites! Perfectly comfortable, complete with bottomless popcorn and an amazing view of the show, the families enjoyed what one youngster proclaimed was “the best day of (my) life!” When the door to the suite was opened, the girls screamed with delight at the beautiful pink gift bags that awaited them! Each mother and daughter received a “swag bag” courtesy of the Calgary Coop Foundation. Goodies included bubble bath, body wash, chocolate, nail polish, tea and other “girly” loot! The girls enjoyed searching through their bags for all the surprises!
The fun continued with an almost three-hour Stars on Ice show hosted by Kurt Browning. In its 25th year, the families were treated to skating performances by Olympians and world champions alike. Who could ever forget the searing Bronze medal performance by Joannie Rochette at the 2010 Olympics? Her incredible courageous story should inspire us all, as should the stories of the “Stars Off Ice” that we had the pleasure to send to “Stars on Ice” in true VIP style!
