Rocking Olympic Dreams – Annual Curling Day

23 Apr Rocking Olympic Dreams – Annual Curling Day

Just weeks after the closing ceremonies of the Pyeongchang Olympics, a group of students were inspired by their Canadian heroes to “throw their weight” behind the rocks and go for a win at the Calgary Curling Club!

With the support of Coulee Creek Farms, our annual curling day took place on April 18. We hosted an enthusiastic group of kids and their chaperones for lessons, instruction and challenges on the ice, before trying a couple of ends as pros. Thank you to the staff of the Calgary Curling Club for creating such an engaging and rewarding day for us; everyone left feeling successful, challenged, and intrigued by this iconic winter sport. What a successful event!

This year, we are thrilled to announce the creative support of Coulee Creek Farms as they hosted their own outdoor curling fundraising event in February. Jason Wilson spent countless hours preparing an outdoor rink, complete with rings, rocks and stiff competition as a fundraiser for Kids Up Front. The photos do not tell the complete story, as the size of the outdoor venue, the weather, and ice conditions created interesting challenges for players and participants. The concept and presentation of the outdoor bonspiel was incredible, and resulted in almost $2000 raised for our programming! These dollars were put towards hosting our signature curling day, which began with a suggestion from an interested board member and has grown to be an annual event.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped on and off the ice, and thank you to Katie and Heather for coming out and offering your enthusiasm and expertise. Thank you to the incredible staff member, Angela, and parent volunteer from Sacred Heart School; we appreciate your time to organize the kids, the chaperones, the bus, and all the paperwork to make this day happen!

Kids Up Front strives to offer unique and interesting opportunities to our kids, in addition to the usual favorites of hockey, football, theatre and festivals.  We are always on the lookout for activities that will spark interest, peak curiosity, and incite participation in new activities.

We invite all of you “idea” people to step forward and bring your suggestions, time and talent to us so we can continue to offer our kids and families new and exciting events such as curling day!

Thank you, Coulee Creek Farms, for bringing our curling event “full circle”, by hosting an innovative curling fundraiser, and then coming out to curl with our kids!

 Brilliant. Thoughtful. Impactful.

Grateful.
