Kids Up Front’s 2nd Annual Ski Day!

13 Apr Kids Up Front’s 2nd Annual Ski Day!

APRIL 1, 2015

What an amazing day on the slopes as Carl and Friends partnered with Kids Up Front to provide 15 children their very first ski experience!

The weather at Nakiska was warm and perfect for the future Olympians to practice their downhill “pizzas”!

“Ski Day with Carl and Friends” began its incredible journey in 2014, when a local donor “Carl” suggested a ski day event to Kids Up Front. The inaugural ski day last year was perhaps bested in 2015, with fifteen grade five students and their teacher enjoying an incredible day on the mountains. None of the kids had ever been to Kananaskis or tried skiing before. Adding to the excitement, the kids were outfitted with brand new skiwear, courtesy of DC. Being April Fools Day, some of the kids could not believe they actually got to keep their awesome new threads!

Not only did the kids look great, but they were amazing students and role models for others. Kids Up Front staff noticed how determined, tenacious and resilient the children were, refusing to get frustrated or give up while trying to master such a challenging sport for the first time. They kept picking themselves up, dusting themselves off, and going back for more! They were so patient while being fitted for rentals, and were diligent listeners and learners during their morning lessons. The entire team was impressed by this group of students, and were surprised when they wolfed down their lunches and headed back out to the hill after such an exhausting early morning. While some kids were a bit scared when they thought they were heading “straight to the top”, their confidence grew by the minute, and self-doubt was eagerly replaced with enthusiasm.

Thank you to our generous donor Carl, and his friends, who sponsor this entire day to allow kids to experience the outdoors and winter sports that are new to them! The kids had a fantastic time, and as you can see from the pictures, the smiles were big, bright and proud! New friends were made, new skills were learned, and new experiences were enjoyed. Thank you for allowing our Kids Up Front children to challenge themselves in such a positive way, making memories that are lasting, and helping to foster self-confidence and pride. They will remember this day for a lifetime!
