The news that everyone is talking about lately is our incredible anonymous donor of the private screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens! We are fielding calls, queries and media requests for knowledge and information about this elusive individual. In keeping with the force’s strict code of conduct, we are unable to divulge this information. Maybe he came to our office dressed as a Storm Trooper? Maybe as Chewbacca? We will never tell…

Why is Mark Hamill tweeting Kids Up Front? Was the donor Mark? George Lucas himself? We will take our answers to the bridge deck, boldly wearing our black capes, and bearing our light sabres!

It was a “really big deal” on Saturday morning, December 19th, 2015 as 180 children, parents, agency staff and volunteers invited by Kids Up Front attended a private screening of the new Star Wars movie! In 3D! The energy rivalled that of the best light sabre, and Kids Up Front is so very grateful for the donor that approached us with this idea over six months ago, and also for our amazing support from our partner agencies that really believed in their children, families and volunteers to help make this day happen! Bravo to all of you! You deserve standing ovations for coming out so early on your days off to give deserving kids an experience of a lifetime! For many of these children, it was their very first time in a movie theatre! One little guy commented, “Wow, this is the biggest screen I have ever seen!”

We appreciate the support of the agencies that were invited to the screening: Cornerstone Youth Centre, Power Play a  program delivered  by the Calgary Police Service, Hope Mission, Youth Unlimited, Aspen Family Services, Kids Cancer Care, students from West Dover and Holy Cross schools, Airdrie Boys and Girls Club, and the Radisson Heights After-school Program. We really thank you for maximizing the number of children in attendance, and providing staff supervision and support throughout the morning! I have to add, it was the quietest movie theater that I have ever been in! You could have heard a pin drop!

Thank you to CIBC Theatre for All that helps Kids Up Front to provide theater opportunities for our children!

So who is he really?

Well, you can try chocolate, candy, coffees and baked treats. We are open until end of business day on Wednesday, December 23rd. However, the force is with this donor, and he may be called out at any time on assignment. Maybe he is high upon a mountaintop? Maybe he is in Hollywood? Maybe he is standing behind you in the Tim Horton’s lineup?

Or maybe, this donor is to be seen in the mirror?

Please help Kids Up Front continue to provide these amazing experiences made possible by generous donors like you! If this incredible story awakened the force within you over the past couple of days, please consider supporting us by simply texting the word TICKET to the number 41010! It will prompt you to make a $10 or $20 pledge and it will be placed on your next phone bill.

Looking for other ways to support us? Check out our 4th Annual ‘All In For Kids’ charity poker tournament happening on February 8th, 2016! It is our major annual fundraiser that allows us to continue our programming, which is this year is more important than ever due to our shared struggling provincial economy.

To the donor who made this happen, thank you so very much. To the kids, may the force be with you.
