An Evening with Zorro

06 Dec An Evening with Zorro

Kids Up Front is so grateful to partner with our friends at Alberta Theatre Projects to host a full house of our young guests and their families for a special evening at the theatre each year! This year was exceptional, with 360 kids and their families coming out to see a special production of Zorro: Family Code on November 25, 2018.  We love to collaborate with the staff of Alberta Theatre Projects each year to host this exclusive event for Kids Up Front guests. We pack the entire theatre with our kids and families, with a preshow party featuring dinner, dessert, refreshments, treats, crafts, face painting, and other surprises before enjoying the holiday production by Alberta Theatre Projects.  We had four chartered buses providing much needed transport, and for the first time we offered this to some of our rural guests, which was a huge success given icy road conditions; we will be sure to look at this again for 2019!

The show was incredible, with humour, gallantry, suspicion, justice, love and friendship all woven together to tell a tale of family, gratitude and honor.  There was plenty of sword battle, compelling drama and laugh out loud comedy.   Some of our guests may have recognized Lucian-River Mirage Chauhan after his amazing performance in the Secret Garden; Zorro: Family Code did not disappoint and our youngsters in the audience found his character relatable and funny, and a peer to look up to!

There are too many wonderful people to thank, all of whom gave countless hours, talent, and heart to ensure that the evening was a huge success.  We could not host this party without the support of our friends at Alberta Theatre Projects, and the many volunteers who took important roles at coat check, the pizza stand, the refreshment table, the elevator, craft table, handed out treasure bags, and did some face painting!  Truly, our volunteers are the best.  They battled weather and missed the Grey Cup to ensure our guests had an incredible evening; now that is dedication and commitment! We can not thank you enough.

We wish to extend our heartfelt thank you to several donors whose significant contributions helped us to put together this incredible evening for our families. We could not have done it without their support!

  • To our friends at Alberta Theatre Projects, we thank you for many years of offering our kids and families an exclusive, fabulous and family friendly dress rehearsal performance of your holiday production.  Over the years we have enjoyed Charlotte’s Web, Legend Has It, Slipper: A Distinctly Calgarian Cinderella Story, and this year Zorro: Family Code!
  • The Harry and Martha Cohen Foundation has provided financial support for this event since 2015! We can not thank you enough for continuing to invest in this arts opportunity for deserving kids across Southern Alberta. Your support removes barriers to access for some of our most vulnerable kids.
  • We welcome Nutrien as a supporter of this event in 2018; your commitment allowed 360 kids and their families to enjoy and engage in a live theater performance, many of whom were experiencing this for the very first time! Hooray!
  • Thank you to the U of C Students’ Union Committee of 10,000 for believing in the value of this event and ensuring that we could arrange for transportation, goodies and all the extras needed to make this evening successful!
  • Thank you to the Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation, who supports us throughout the year to provide food at some of our signature events and field trips! We could not do it without your support!
  • Thank you to Sunterra Market for providing the beverages for our guests throughout the evening; this support goes a long way to ensuring that we can continue to deliver a complete and quality experience for everyone!
  • Also a big thank you to CIBC Theatre For All for their annual support and providing theatre experiences for our kids.
