27 Mar Alice in Wonderland comes to life for 200 deserving kids!
Alberta Ballet has been a longtime supporter of Kids Up Front; with their support and the generosity of the Sun Life Share the Excitement Program, thousands of children have had an opportunity to experience their very first live ballet performance!
With every performance, Kids Up Front receives dozens of thank you cards from our young patrons, many carefully created and decorated, with heartwarming messages of gratitude. We were so excited to see Alberta Ballet’s newest performance, Alice In Wonderland, with 200 of our children and families in the audience. This performance was certainly one of our crowd favorites, with the costumes, score and story line keeping even the youngest audience members engaged!
I had the pleasure of sitting beside some delightful youngsters, and enjoyed over hearing their thoughtful conversations and comments throughout the performance. It was beyond cute to hear one little guy remark, “I think those are definitely zombies!”, while his big sister commented, “that is a lobster, not a zombie…” as the first characters entered the stage. The very small children in front of me did not move a single muscle as the dancers whirled on stage, the Queen of Hearts stormed around, the hilarious flamingo croquet game ensued, and the antics of Tweedledee and Tweedledum played out before their eyes. They did not make a single peep!
There was much hilarity and laughter as “no more tea!” echoed throughout the auditorium, and the fussing baby was bounced ever higher and higher! This caused gasps and chuckles as everyone juggled the “baby” back and forth like a hot potato.
Thank you, donors, Alberta Ballet and Sun Life for your incredible support of our programs; the kids and families loved Alice In Wonderland with its stunning visuals, delightful score, and lightheartedness. The classic tale was fantastical to experience as a ballet! Thank you so much!
We look forward to the amazing Our Canada performance May 4 to 6, 2017, featuring the music of Canada’s Gordon Lightfoot, celebrating Canada 150 and the 50th anniversary of the Alberta Ballet.
This is a great collaborative and celebratory project; Kids Up Front can’t wait to experience it!
